The 45th Parallel is located just off US Route One in North Perry.  Back in 1888 this "benchmark" was established by two surveyors named Bates and Longellow.  Today there is a small rest and picnic area that was recently in danger of being discontinued due to the reconstruction of U.S. Route One.  The Maine Department of Transportation has now included this historic area as part of the improvements scheduled to begin during the Summer of 2006.
